Even the most beautiful faces are asymmetrical in some way. One side is rarely a mirror image of the other. Maybe the left eye is a different size or shape than the right or one cheekbone is slightly higher or fuller. In most cases these minor asymmetries are barely noticeable and don’t detract from our appearance. But sometimes they do. Particularly when the asymmetry is not a natural phenomenon and is due to dermal filler abnormalities. If that’s the case then additional filler may be required to solve the problem.

When One Side of the Face Needs Fixing

Cheeks and lips are two facial structures that tend go awry more often than any other. The most common problem is overfilling, causing the face to look unnatural or ‘done.’ Another issue that can arise is uneven wearing of the filler.

In some cases the filler can settle in unevenly, especially if the patient has a baseline asymmetry. One side will remain full while the other may develop a depression or dent. It’s also possible that the filler simply vanishes, which can happen with products that aren’t cross-linked or have a low percentage of hyaluronic acid (HA). All that’s required to correct the problem is a touch up  with a different dermal filler that’s more durable.

Congenital Asymmetry is More Difficult to Treat

Sometimes mother nature throws us a curve ball. One side of the face can look dramatically bigger, crooked or even distorted. Surgery may be the only option in the more complicated cases but for minor asymmetry issues dermal filler can come to the rescue once again.
